# Forum and archive search methods
Several statements in this wiki are negatives: that War Syndicate never posted a
forum thread, that no Coalition founding announcement exists, that no alliance
roster was published after June 2022. A negative is only worth stating if the
search behind it was exhaustive, so the methods are recorded here.
## The alliance-prefix census
The Wynncraft guild subforum tags threads with a prefix, and prefix 82 is
"Alliance". Listing every thread carrying that prefix, in creation order, yields
the complete set of alliance threads ever posted — 40 of them. That converts
"we could not find a thread for X" into "X never posted one", which is a much
stronger and more useful claim.
The same subforum accepts ordering by post date ascending, which gives a complete
creation-order census of guild threads for any period.
## Wayback CDX sweeps
The Internet Archive's CDX index lists every capture it holds for a URL pattern. A
sweep across archived Wynncraft thread URLs — 19,659 of them in one pass —
establishes whether a page ever existed and was captured. Where a thread is absent
from both the live forum and the CDX index, it is reasonable to say it is gone.
## What these methods cannot show
An exhaustive forum search proves only that something was not written *on the
forum*. Much of Wynncraft's guild diplomacy happened in Discord, which no archive
covers: the absence of a public record is frequently evidence about where people
talked, not about whether the thing happened.
Articles are careful with this distinction. "No roster was ever published" is a
claim these methods support; "the alliance had no roster" is not.
