Nether's Ascent [TNA] was one of the first Wynncraft guilds and one of the two dominant territorial powers of mid-2015. It was created on 21 December 2014 by Francis12qwasyx, the same day as Holders of LE and one day before guild warfare was released^[1].

History

In early March 2015 it was one of the four founding guilds of the alliance Legio Praetoria, with KnightOfValor, Imperial and Kangronomicon; two of the four left on 5 June 2015 and the alliance collapsed roughly a month later^[2]. Through the summer of 2015 Nether's Ascent and Kangronomicon between them held the map. Drew1011 described the pair as "essentially the Hax of mid 2015"^[3], and a June 2016 forum post reached for the same comparison, calling HackForums and Libertas a "rule of two" that "many distinguished scholars compare … to the ancient guilds of 'The Nether's Ascent' and 'Kangronomicon'"^[4].

The guild was a standing target for smaller guilds trying to make a name. Drew1011 wrote that Holders of LE ran deliberate skirmishes against it in mid-2015, "frequently … able to take and hold about 6-7 territories before they pushed us back", specifically in order to be noticed by Kangronomicon^[5]. Kangronomicon passed Nether's Ascent in experience to take first place shortly before September 2015^[6].

The allegation of diverted attacks

Drew1011 recorded a suspicion that Nether's Ascent redirected hostile guilds onto its own ally: "Myself and many others suspect this is because of the terribly kept secret that TNA would often make deals with other guilds where they managed to persuade other guilds to instead attack their Fuq, their ally"^[7]. He offered no evidence for it, and the question was never settled. The map he reproduces beside the passage shows Validus and its allies holding most of the province with Kangronomicon absent from it entirely while Nether's Ascent retains its whole eastern block^[8]; the image is consistent with the claim but was selected by the person making it.

Later record

Unlike most guilds of its cohort, Nether's Ascent outlived the period. It was still recruiting members away from other guilds in 2016 — an applicant to Libertas in September 2016 wrote "i was in Validus and now i'am in nether ascent but I'm not satisfied of the guild anymore"^[9] — and it was a member guild of the Federation, listed as "Nethers Ascent [TNA]" in the November 2018 roster^[10]. When it joined, what it contributed, and when it ended were never recorded.
