Validus [Val] was a Wynncraft guild of 2015 led by Ezura and the founder of the Concordia alliance, the bloc that came closest to breaking the Kangronomicon and Nether's Ascent duopoly. In August 2015 its chief tangler declared hostilities against Holders of LE over that guild's defection to Kangronomicon.

Validus was a guild, not an alliance: it carried a guild tag, its members described having been "in Validus", and it was Concordia's founding member rather than Concordia itself[1][2].

History

The guild was led by Ezura, with tangler as his chief[3][4]. Ezura appears in no other source.

Validus first approached Holders of LE, Drew1011's guild, on 5 July 2015, when tangler messaged its leadership after seeing it warring against Kangronomicon[5]. Drew1011 describes months of correspondence about "plans to revolt against Fuq & TNA and bring them down from their role as the two guilds that controlled the map", and writes that in his own judgement nothing came of them: "My forum inbox became filled with talks of strategy and tactics … But no meaningful results ever came about"[6]. In his 2017 account of the same period he describes the relationship as membership of Validus's alliance: "we joined their alliance, Concordia. Although in the end we left to pursue better opportunities for the guild"[7].

The break of August 2015

On 14 August 2015 Holders of LE became a Kangronomicon subguild without notifying Validus, and the following day tangler added Drew1011 and Spham to a forum group chat. His message opened by reproducing a quotation attributed to Ezura reacting to the defection — "it was later revealed that the Ezura … quote was an edited quote that had originated from a completely different subject", Drew1011 wrote[8]. The second half declared the consequence, dated on its own byline to 16 August 2015:

"Drew's betrayal has greatly limited our options … I'm not inclined to try to persuade Ezura to give Drew another chance, and will act on his instructions accordingly. What a waste, now we all get to fight while TNA laughs . . . I give you an hour's notice, an hour more than Drew gave me."[9]

Concordia and after

Validus founded Concordia, which grew through the autumn of 2015 among guilds opposed to the Kangronomicon and Nether's Ascent duopoly[10]. Drew1011 wrote that Validus absorbed a group of members who left Holders of LE after its change of ownership on 22 September 2015 and was "the strongest" of the roughly four guilds in the coordinated Concordia attack on Kangronomicon and Nether's Ascent in October 2015[11]. In late September or early October 2015 Validus and its ally Travellers held most of the province[12].

Drew1011, a participant on the other side, wrote that opposition to Validus was fuelled by its leader's conduct in game[13]. A thread titled "Come Join! The Odeus Anti-Validus Pact" was posted by tangler on 28 November 2015, ran to 24 replies, and was locked, its last poster the Wynncraft moderator Mekyr on 29 November 2015[4]. What the thread said — and how a Validus chief came to author a pact named against his own guild — is not known.

The guild outlived its alliance. In August 2016 an applicant to Libertas wrote "I was in Validus the moment it was founded" and, of his reason for leaving, "My guild (Validus) is really inactive now"[1]. Its founding date, its size and the circumstances of its end are unrecorded.
