Halcyon belongs to a cluster of non-war alliances that appeared in the early guild era alongside Seraphim and Aurelion, at a point when a single guild — HackForums — held close to half the territory map and open warring had become unrewarding for most guilds.

History

Yamipanda, leader of ToastedPandas, posted the announcement thread on 8 June 2016: "On June 5th, 2016, the Halcyon Alliance was born. The Halcyon Alliance was founded upon the vision to create solutions of preparing for success, improving community ideals and player relations."^[1] The terms were mutual aid and joint deliberation rather than a war compact: "This is an agreement for whenever help is needed, each member shall aid each other in whatever task it may be. Each guild shall work together to discuss any issues that may arise and compromise to reach agreement."^[1]

Its governance mirrored the pattern Valkyrie used in the same period, splitting internal from external affairs: "Internal affairs are to be handled by individual guild leaders, while matters concerning foreign entities as well as within the whole alliance are to be dealt with by every guild leader and any other representatives."^[1] The stated aim was social — "to provide an environment where members can feel comfortable socializing and gaming" — with events and challenges promised.^[1]

Drew1011, owner of Holders of LE, signed on in the thread the same evening: "Glad to create an alliance with a guild as amazing as TnP. Long live Halcyon. To clarify, it's pronounce Hal-see-on."^[2] Killerfish was credited by Yamipanda with "helping with most of the diction" and replied as an insider — "Now, let us all within the alliance see an age of Halcyon"^[3] — placing him inside the Halcyon circle a month before he became a founding council member of House of Sentinels, and eighteen months before he founded a Coalition guild.^[4]

Membership

Halcyon was founded between exactly two guilds, ToastedPandas and Holders of LE, and no third guild is recorded as joining, though a reader in the thread wished aloud that "this alliance includes increased amounts of guilds".^[5] Both members had appeared in the Ordo Malleus roster of February 2016;^[6] Holders of LE went on to join Seraphim that August and Valkyrie that October.^[7]

Legacy

No dissolution was recorded, and Halcyon was never mentioned again after June 2016; a reply in the founding thread asking "how long will this last?" went unanswered.^[8] A social layer persisted underneath the territorial situation: the two guilds' leaderships stayed closely tied, and Drew1011 went on to lead Valkyrie from October 2016 and to found the Federation in 2018.^[7]
