The war between the two successor blocs of the Great Collapse, begun 11 May 2021 — the day both formed — and fading only in spring 2022. Vanir inherited Valhalla's side mid-war, and the realignment that followed produced Cucumber Company.

The Valhalla-Khaos war began on 11 May 2021, the day both blocs emerged from The Great Collapse[1][2], and ran — through renames, betrayals and collapses on the Valhalla side — until the fighting faded to nothing in 2022.

Background

Valhalla formed from thirteen guilds including The Aquarium; Khaos formed the same day, largely from the Goose bloc's core: Aequitas, Wheres The Finish, Nerfuria, Ultra Violet, Fuzzy Spiders, ChinaNumberOne, Cyphrus Code and Eden, joined days later by Tartarus Wrath[3]. Valhalla took map control from Goose's remnants within days[4] and dominated the map through 2021 — by September 2021 joining Valhalla was described as 'the meta' for leaderboard guilds[5].

Course of the war

Fighting was sustained — roughly a thousand territory exchanges a week at its peaks — from May 2021 into spring 2022[6].

The Valhalla side changed shape mid-war. In late 2021 The Mage Legacy and TheNoLifes turned on their allies (not the first bloc to die of internal strain): friction was visible from August, and both were excluded when ten Valhalla guilds reorganized as Vanir on 28 November 2021[7]. The betrayal erupted into open war in December — 5,359 territory exchanges that month[8] — and TheNoLifes went on to help lead Khaos[9]. Vanir itself collapsed on 18 December 2021, twenty days after forming, when Emorians, Nefarious Ravens, IceBlue Team and Avicia left[10].

Khaos fought on against the ex-Valhalla/Vanir guilds — an opposing coalition known as the Pineapple Pact, a name never written down at the time[9]. This final phase peaked in January 2022 at 500–800 territory exchanges per week and faded through spring to nothing by mid-July 2022[11].

Aftermath

No peace was ever recorded. Khaos was defunct by 26 June 2022; its guilds were absorbed into Cucumber Company[12], the merged mega-bloc of the 2022 realignment that united the ex-Valhalla and ex-Khaos worlds.
