The Great Collapse is the name given to 11 May 2021, the day Goose and Artemis both collapsed and the guild world reorganized into Valhalla and Khaos^[1] — ending the Artemis-Goose era and beginning the Valhalla one.

Background

The Goose-Artemis war had run since December 2020^[2]: Artemis the map-holder, Goose the coalition that rose against it and eventually took map control. By May 2021 Goose had absorbed much of the old Artemis world along with the guilds that would become Khaos's core.

The collapse

On 11 May 2021 both alliances dissolved on the same day. Thirteen guilds — including The Aquarium — formed Valhalla, while nine, largely the Goose bloc's core (Aequitas, Wheres The Finish, Nerfuria, Ultra Violet, Fuzzy Spiders, ChinaNumberOne, Cyphrus Code, Eden, with Tartarus Wrath joining days later), formed Khaos^[3]. Valhalla took map control from Goose's remnants within days^[4].

A megalist post of 25 May 2021 recorded that 'the two major alliances both disbanded and got new names... Valhalla and Kaos', while noting that Valkyrie 'stayed the same'^[5][6]. No public rosters of the new blocs were ever posted^[3]. Why both alliances fell on the same day is not recorded.

Aftermath

The Valhalla-Khaos war began the day both blocs formed and outlived them both in their original shapes. The collapse also fixed the shape of guild politics for the following year: Valhalla's line ran through Vanir to the great 2022 realignment^[7], and Khaos's guilds were eventually absorbed into Cucumber Company^[8].
