History

Founding

Artemis was formed on 30 October 2019, in the aftermath of the Terra bloc's fall, by Imperial, Paladins United and Caeruleum Order.^[1] On 10 November 2019 fragments of the collapsed Terra launched a final raid on the newborn alliance. Nightingales and Phantom Hearts joined within days of the founding.^[1]

No founding announcement was ever posted, and the founder guilds' own leadership at that moment is known only in fragments. Caeruleum Order — founded on 10 September 2018 and self-described as "a democratic, fully parliamentary guild" — was run by a four-member Caeruleum Parliament of MultiSmith, 1917Lenin1917, StormPh0enix and StarlyNight.^[2] The guild passed from Luna to Artemis; its recruitment thread still read "We are a part of the Luna Alliance" while listing "Artemis Alliance" as the current bloc.^[2] Carrie spoke for Paladins United in the same period.^[3]

The 2020 transformation

No Artemis membership list was published between November 2019 and December 2020, and the alliance that emerged from that gap looked very different from the one that entered it. By 9 March 2020 Kingdom Foxes was a member^[4], and ShadowFall held a leadership seat: on that day GoulartJJ posted "as the Shadow Fall leader and one of Artemis leaders", defending the alliance against the charge that it froze small guilds out.^[5] ShadowFall, he wrote, had grown to "level 20ish by August of last year" through free-for-all territory grinding after "we tried joining Luna when we were leveling but got denied", and he set out the alliance's two working rules: "Guilds who are with big claims are the guilds who have contributed the most to the alliance", and "Guilds may also apply to Artemis by contacting one of the guild leaders, and possibly be accepted."^[5] By 2 December 2020 the forum megalist described Artemis as "(war alliance) made up of all the current massive land holding guilds on the map", naming Titans Valor as a member.^[6]

The founders, meanwhile, had drifted out: by 18 December 2020 both Paladins United and Imperial stood with the unnamed anti-Artemis coalition that would take the name Goose.^[7] When and why they left was never recorded; their departures appear to have come near the start of December 2020, when that coalition's war on the Artemis core ignited.^[8]

The Goose war and collapse

From December 2020 Artemis defended its map dominance in the Goose-Artemis war. The bleed of members continued into the new year — "BNU(IBT), SHY and TNL are all goose now", a megalist post recorded on 1 February 2021, marking ShadowFall's switch to the enemy.^[9] On 25 January 2021 the two blocs jointly granted Profession Heaven neutral status as a public profession-XP guild.^[10] Artemis was still on the offensive in February 2021 ("Artemis guilds warring the Rays-held desert")^[11], and took late reinforcements — Sins of Seedia in March 2021, Aequitas and Wheres The Finish in early May — but on 11 May 2021 Artemis and Goose collapsed on the same day.^[1]

Membership

Several membership dates are "by" dates rather than exact joins. The roster between November 2019 and December 2020 was never published.

Legacy

Artemis gave its name to the Artemis-Goose era. Its final membership fed both successor blocs of The Great Collapse: Titans Valor went into Valhalla, while the late joiners Aequitas and Wheres The Finish co-founded Khaos the same day.^[10] The joint protection of Profession Heaven outlived both blocs, maintained by their successors until 2026.
