Luna was a Wynncraft war alliance of 2019, formed on 14 Feb 2019 to counter SOL. It fought Kingdom Foxes across 300+ territories, gained full map control on 17 Jul 2019 after wiping every guild but Avicia, and collapsed in September 2019 after a leadership revolt and the loss of the map to Terra.

History

Formation

Luna was formed on 14 Feb 2019 by Imperial, Emorians, Blacklisted, BuildCraftia and others, explicitly to counter SOL, the bloc left standing after the Federation's fall.[1] The community timeline lists Kingdom Foxes among the founders, but Luna was at war with Fox from its second day.[2]

The war on Kingdom Foxes

From 15 Feb 2019 Luna fought Kingdom Foxes across more than 300 territories; Imperial alone attacked Fox 660 times.[2] The war ended when Fox joined Luna on 8 Jul 2019 — the day after the Treaty of Ternaves, in which Fox, The Simple Ones and ThisIsMurica divided the territory of the dissolved Celestial Tigers.[1]

After fending off an attack on Kingdom Foxes in July 2019, Luna wiped every guild on the map except Avicia; Avicia joined on 17 Jul 2019, and Luna held the entire map.[1]

Luna as the Valkyrie bloc

Arkada of Titans Valor, writing on the opposing side in September 2019, described not a new alliance but a renaming: "The Valkyrie alliance, consisting of Kingdom Foxes, Imperial, Paladins United, and Emorians" broke a summer raid on Kingdom Foxes, took the map in under two days, and thereafter appears in his account as "the Valkyrie alliance, now calling themselves the Luna alliance".[3] He blames the raid's failure on Valkyrie's "controversial use of sub guilds", by which main-guild members "could defend land more quickly by branching into sub guilds", and names Blacklisted and BuildCraftia as the first defectors, followed by Avicia and The Simple Ones.[4]

The renaming account matches Luna's role as the public war-fighting face of the Valkyrie network[5], but not the recorded dates: Luna formed in February 2019 against SOL, while Arkada places the bloc's emergence after the midsummer raid and counts Imperial and Paladins United as long-standing Valkyrie members, though their Valkyrie membership is first recorded in September 2019.[6] The discrepancy is set out on the Imperial and Paladins United pages.

Revolt and collapse

On 29 Aug 2019, after a leadership dispute, Emorians and Avicia left Luna and declared war on Imperial, spiralling into a large war over Gavel; ThisIsMurica was kicked the next day for sending fighters, and Terra formed in the chaos on 30 Aug.[1] Arkada adds a cause for the Emorians' turn from neutral exile to belligerent: Luna "seized all of its lands" after the departure, which he judged "a large mistake", since it made the Emorians sympathetic to the resistance.[7] In the Luna–Terra war of 7–19 Sep 2019, The Simple Ones defected to Terra on 8 Sep and Terra took map control the same day[1] — over 2,000 exchanges swept across 322 territories in ten days.[2] A week of Luna counter-raids failed, and on 14 Sep 2019 Luna mounted an organised counter-raid that Terra had been warned of by a spy. Arkada wrote the same day: "In the morning, Luna struck, but we struck harder. In the late afternoon, Luna struck again, but we struck even harder."[8] Kingdom Foxes left on the 18th, and Luna collapsed.[1]

Membership

At its July–August 2019 peak Luna had ten member guilds at once.[5]

Legacy

Luna's fall handed the map to Terra, whose core went on to found the Council of Canyon Kingdoms. Luna itself was the war-fighting face of the much older Valkyrie community network.[5]
