The February–March 2018 war between the Coalition and Alliance Alliance, the breakaway bloc formed by five of its member guilds. The newly formed Federation took the map on 21 February 2018 and ended the war on 19–20 March by reducing Alliance Alliance to a single territory.

Background
The Coalition was founded in October 2017 by Kingdom Foxes, KingdomPhoenixes, Gilded Sparrows and House of Sentinels[4]. It took control of the Wynn Province on 23 November 2017, wiped War Syndicate on Christmas Day, and from then on held full dominance of the map[5].
Course of the war
On 16–17 February 2018, five member guilds — HackForums, Paladins United, House of Sentinels, Emorians and Kangronomicon — left the Coalition over map disputes and formed Alliance Alliance together with Fantasy and Necronomicon, declaring war on their former alliance. (The community timeline image dates the split to 16 February[6]; the Timeline document says 17 February[7].)
The split ended the Coalition as an entity almost at once: its remnant merged with the remains of War Syndicate into a new alliance, the Federation, founded and led by Drew1011[8][9]. Alliance Alliance held most of the map immediately after the split — 337 of 376 territories on 17 February against the Federation's 28[11]; the breakaway bloc "had the map before the night was over"[12]. The Federation reversed that within four days and took the map on 21 February, holding 356 of 383 territories, or 93%[1].
Alliance Alliance retook most of the map for three days at the start of March. Federation holdings fell to 164 territories on 2 March and to 43, or 11%, on 3 March, with Alliance Alliance back at 308, before recovering to 114 on 4 March and to roughly 300 from 6 March[13]. The reversal followed a mob update that took effect on 1 March[14]; it was the only interruption to the bloc's map control, "aside from ~3 days in March"[9].
The war ended on 19–20 March 2018. Alliance Alliance fell from 72 territories to one on 19 March, and the Federation reached 380 of 383 territories, or 99%, on 20 March[2]. That was the elimination of the opposing bloc rather than the moment the Federation took the map, which had happened a month earlier[3].
No war chart exists for this conflict: the fighting involved two multi-guild blocs rather than a single pair of guilds, and the exchange log begins only in January 2018[15].
Aftermath
With the war over, Alliance Alliance dissolved and several of its guilds — Fantasy, Paladins United and Emorians among them — joined the Federation[16], which went on to hold the entire map for 8 months and 25 days[9], until its death in November 2018. The Federation's genealogy remained disputed among veterans: Lego_DW later wrote that 'Coa and WS merged... this was a creation of fed'[8], while Slayne claimed in 2018 to have created it via Alliance Alliance[17].
